Vier Abschlussprojekte von Absolvent*innen des internationalen Masterstudiengangs „Visual Anthropology, Media and Documentary Practices“ der Westfälischen Wilhelms-Universität Münster werden am Abend des 17. November 2022 im Cinema vorgestellt. Moderiert wird der Abend von Dozenten des Studiengangs. Zwischen der Präsentation der einzelnen Projekte werden kurze Diskussionen mit den Filmemacher*innen geführt. Four final projects by graduates of the international master’s program „Visual Anthropology, Media and Documentary Practices“ of the University of Münster will be presented at the Cinema on the evening of November 17, 2022. The evening will be moderated by lecturers of the master program. Between the presentation of the individual projects, there will be short discussions with the filmmakers. „Patcho Star & Munganga“ by Esteban Calderón Merchan The story revolves around a musician from the Democratic Republic of Congo named Patcho Star, who is a well-known representative of the influential Congolese musical style Soukous. He fled the Congo 25 years ago and has since then been living in the German city of Münster, where he continues his music career in a special way. He has founded a band with German musicians and is now planning to play a series of concerts with this band in the DR Congo.The film Patcho Star & Munganga portrays Patcho’s biography and the preparation of his German band for the concerts in Congo. It is the result of an anthropological, ethnomusicological, and collaborative reative process. 31 minutes „The Last Letter to Nasser“ by Fayza Harby-Bemmann Fayza Harby-Bemmann, born in Kuwait is an Egyptian filmmaker, anthropologist and author from Alexandria. She holds a master’s degree in visual anthropology and documentary practice at the University of Münster. Harby-Bemmann directed several short films in Egypt and participated in several film festivals – her short feature MURAL won the award for best visual effects at the Sudan Arabic Film festival in 2015. From 2015 to 2017 she chaired the Film festival Alexandria. The essay film THE LAST LETTER TO NASSER (2022) is her first feature-length film. She is currently working on her first novel Manifesto of a good girl. She lives in Cologne, Germany. 61 minutes „Silent Song“ by Karnchanit Posawat ‚Silent Song‘ explore the relationship between Thai migrants and Thai-founded karaoke bars in Berlin, looking at singing karaoke as a cultural ritual for new migrants to use as a tool to become part of the existing Thai community. The film experiments with moving images, audio, and interviews to show the stages of the in-betweenness of Thai migrants in the karaoke bar space. 20 minutes Jenna Keiper Experience a day on the Camino de Santiago in this immersive web documentary that invites you to explore how walking the Camino helps pilgrims heal and change. Interviews and ambient footage weave together past and future, before and after, as four pilgrims describe their experiences both ‚in the present‘ on the trail and four years later in the midst of a global pandemic future. Audience members are invited to ‚walk‘ through the material, which combines film, audio, embodied practice, poetry, and social science. While choosing their own pathways and pacing, they get to explore the ways we humans use embodied rituals to transform. 10-15 min Website Presentation
